NYC: Graffiti

Graffiti in New York is on a different level. Much like Tokyo, it is not limited to simple spray-paint and sharpie drawings; it also includes stickers in urban spaces and even Scratchitti (I think New York city cops coined that term).

Smruti Maniar, artist

I had the pleasure of meeting Smruti Maniar during my brief stay in New Jersey a few weeks ago. Smruti is an amazing artist, specializing in folk and modern Indian art. Below are samples of her past work. I had the good fortune to also see a different body of work that's in her family's collection and it blew me away. Smruti also did Henna (temporary body tattoo) for a good friend of ours (Vidya) for her recent wedding - more to come on that this month!

You can see more of Smruti's recent exhibition here. She also has plans of releasing a new website in the near future, so I'll keep you informed.
