Richards Bros Music

In a previous post, I quickly mentioned the awesomeness that is The Richards Brothers, as well as a small video slideshow collaboration I did with them. The Richards Brothers are Graham and Dave Richards, two very talented jazz musicians with an entrepreneurial mind to manage musicians and ensembles in Dallas / Fort Worth. Many of the musicians they work with are from the internationally acclaimed University of North Texas Jazz Studies and Music programs. Here's the video (kudos to Graham!), and links to many of the musicians appearing in it.

Music by "On the Wall Trio"
Sarah Renfro with 80 Sheets
Mike League with Snarky Puppy
Al McIntosh with the Spike Band
Calley McDowall with the UNT Zebras

Francisco Mela with the Kenny Barron Trio

I will have the pleasure of photographing some of these artists this summer, mainly the ones on Sitmom Records - stay tuned!

BEcause, BEcause, BEcause, BEcause, BEcause!

BEcause of the wonderful things BE does! Bethany Bauman is a (super cool awesome) graphic designer living in Viet Nam and she created the program/poster/ticket designs for this weekend's performances of The Wizard of Oz - put on by the Ha Noi (not Kansas) International Theatre Society. So turn that frown upside down Toto, you'll be back to the cornfields before you know it and BE will be designing something new and exciting.

Here is her work from the show:

Check out her site at www.BE-what-you-are.com

Bethany made a unique ticket for each performance:

August in August

I did this shoot for August Alexander clothing this past August, for the designer's catalog and advertising. Courtney Russell is the designer (pictured alone below). Models in these shots include Emily Bischoff, Ken Echols (as seen in Prison Break), and Kendal Kinslow (an up and coming clothing designer herself).

¡Vina México!

Hoy es el Cinco de Mayo, and that means fiesta time for Mexicans whether in Mexico, America, or Viet Nam. Today celebrates the battle of Puebla in 1862 against the French. It also means that for one day I prance around with a sombrero on my finger and pay homage to the ziploc ads of the 90s. But seriously, if you see the frito bandito (pictured above) he's wanted - dead or alive.

Tonight we will visit the village of Santa Poco and battle El Guapo - it's "The Three Amigos" starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short. Clip below:

If you're caught up with fictional stories about Mexico, here's a gory one for you. Check out the new book Skull Rack from Doctor Ron Braithwaite.

Sorry, I missed your call.

I spent the last two weeks trekking, kayaking, and biking in Cambodia and Laos. I have been in the fresh air, and away from technology. Now it's back to the daily grind back in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. (Photo above of monks in Phnom Penh, Cambodia)

These two shots remind me of Denis Darzacq's "Falling People".
Photos above and below from Luang Prabang, Laos.

This last shot was taken by Brent Durksen. You really discover how small the world is when you run into people you know in another country - I unexpectedly ran into Brent at this bridge and he was just the man I need to capture an image of myself with the locals.
